Set mining is a derisive term for a simplistic and extremely tight no-limit hold 'em strategy that emphasizes playing pocket pairs so as to flop sets (see NLHE:Flop:Sets), or generally only putting money in with a similarly strong hand. Although tight play is often wise, especially in NLHE, set mining takes this aspect to the extreme.
