An overcard is a card of a higher rank than any other card currently on the board. It is sometimes referred to in its shortened form of over (as in "Well, at least I've got one over!").
An overcard implies that the player has a draw to a higher pair than any player could have right now - but because other players may have pocket pairs higher than the player's overcard, they are somewhat risky to play.
